Sir,
This is in reference to the news item “Estate Deptt fails to recover rent from politicians/journalists”
This news is very disturbing as the department is under direct control of Chief Minister and what would have been the position if it is under the direct control of a State Cabinet Minister.
It is well known to all that this department used to be a part of the PWD, and it was separated and made as fullfledged department under Chief Minister. This department never faced funds crisis. Every politician always enjoyed the Govt funds lavishly. Every year crores of rupees are spent on renovation/furnishing of these bungalows/quarters etc. The rent charges are very small as compared to the facilities being provided at the cost of Govt exchequer as tax revenue. One wonders why these Ex MPs/MLAs and even journalists have not paid little rent/charges since 1999 to 2010. The Deptt is quite helpless to take any concrete action against them.
It is suggested that defaulters should be penalised heavily. In case of journalists/advocates/etc their licenses may be cancelled. No Court of law should accept their interference till they deposit the whole rent/charges with Govt treasury. Unless Govt wakes up and takes right course of action, these people will enjoy and public money shall be misused and none shall be declared defaulter.
Yours etc…
