Establish self-employment units: Sakina to youth

SRINAGAR, July 28: Minister for Social Welfare Ms. Sakina Ittoo today inaugurated Employment Mela at Lamad village of Kulgam district.
The 2-day Employment Mela was organized by District Employment and Counseling Centre, Kulgam for providing awareness among educated unemployed youth regarding setting up of income generating units under self-employment scheme launched by the Government.
Addressing the gathering, the Minister asked the youth for establishing income generating units under various self- employment schemes launched by the State and Central Government. She said that it was difficult for the Government to provide Government job to every educated unemployed. She said that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has initiated measures to curb this menace by launching Sher-i-Kashmir Employment and Welfare  Policy for Youth  (SKEWPY) under which thousands of unemployed youth are getting allowances.
Exhorting upon the youth for availing the benefits of these schemes and setting up of own income generating units, the Minister said that they have to come forward and avail the benefits of these schemes and become job providers not  job seekers.
Ms. Ittoo said that Lamad  and other villages of the area  including Gujjar Basties would be provided good road connectivity, adding that 136 villages of Noorabad Constituency have already been connected with the district headquarter. She said that two Veterinary centres, one each at Lamad and Hallan would be established at a cumulative cost of Rs. 22 lakh.
Besides Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal and Sheep Husbandry Rural Development departments, the bank and other financial agencies also have their stalls during the mela.
Deputy Commissioner, Kulgam, Jehangir Mir, Assistant Director, District Employment and Counseling Centre, Kulgam Sakar Ahmad also spoke on the occasion.
