Espionage case: Retd Army personnel arrested from J-K

NEW DELHI: A retired Indian Army personnel was today arrested from Rajouri district in Jammu and Kashmir in connection with the espionage racket allegedly backed by ISI, police said.

The army personnel has been identified as Munawwar Ahmad Mir, who had retired as a hawaldar, said Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ravindra Yadav.

Mir had joined the Army in 1995 and retired in 2011 after serving in units, including Jammu and Kashmir Infantry and Rashtriya Rifles, in various parts of the country, said Yadav.

He was arrested by a 14-member team of the Inter-State Cell of Delhi Police’s Crime Branch sent to Rajouri on Wednesday. He was booked under provisions of the Officials Secrets Act, said a senior police official.

He was produced before a court and shall be brought to Delhi on transit remand by tomorrow, the official said. (AGENCIES)
