Erring employees of MC Baramulla suspended for vandalizing carts of street vendors

SRINAGAR, Jan 4: Day after the officials of the Municipal Council (MC) Baramulla resorted to vandalism during a drive against the road encroachers at main market Baramulla, the Directorate of Urban Local Bodies (ULB), Kashmir has acted tough even as the officials who carried out the drive have been put under immediate suspension.
The move has come after the video clip of the officials in action in the market went viral, inviting public ridicule against the officials who were seen vandalizing the carts of the poor vendors causing immense losses to them.
The Director ULB in a communication to the Executive Officer, MC Baramulla has said that a video clip was circulated on social media, wherein the employees of Municipal Council Baramulla were seen destroying the items being sold by the street vendors on their vending carts.
The ULB has underlined that the scene was ‘quite painful’ as the concerned staff of the Municipal Council has acted inhumanly with the street vendors. “These kinds of practices are bringing bad name to the MC in particular and deportment as a whole,” Director ULB said.
While expressing serious displeasure on this action of the Municipal Council Baramulla, the Director ULB has directed the concerned official to recover the losses suffered by these vendors from the concerned erring staff involved in such inhuman act and compensate the vendors accordingly.
“Besides, all the concerned staff involved in the brutal action will immediately be placed under suspension and relieved to this Directorate by today and a detailed report in the matter be furnished to this Directorate through return mall,” the Director ULB stated.
In this regard, President MC Baramulla Touseef Raina also condemned the incident and said that the officials responsible will be dealt with strictly for the unwarranted action which they have carried.
In another tweet, he expressed anguish over the incident “My apologies to the affected persons, and I assure them full support from our side for the losses they’ve suffered. Such misbehaviour and ill-treatment with people -won’t be tolerated at any cost,” he said.
The locals have also expressed displeasure over the conduct of the officials of MC Baramulla while stating that there are civil ways to be followed during such drives.
Meanwhile, taking cognizance of the viral video clip, and adhering to the directions of the Director, Urban Local Bodies Kashmir, Executive Officer MC Baramulla has promptly ordered the suspension of 4 erring officials involved in the unruly act.
The employees suspended include Sheikh Sajad Parvaiz, Khilafwarzi Assistant, Faizan Akbar Zunga, Demolition Guard, Sajad Ahmad Khanday, Sanitary Supervisor and Nazir Ahmad Bhat.
They, as per the orders of Executive Officer MC Baramulla, have been attached to the Office Directorate of ULB, Kashmir, Bemina.
