JAMMU, Oct 3: For preparing Detailed Project Report (DPR) and also conducting preliminary study for the Mass Rapid Transport System (Metro rail) in Srinagar and Jammu cities, the State Government has engaged M/s RITES, a subsidiary of Ministry of Railways on the task.
Giving details to the Excelsior, Chief Executive Officer, Economic Reconstru-ction Agency (ERA), Vinod Sharma said that Rs 8.50 crore project for preparing the DPR has been entrusted to the M/s RITES. He disclosed that in the first phase, the projects shall be prepared for the routes as suggested in the City Mobility Plan of Srinagar and Jammu.
The CEO ERA further disclosed that the process has been initiated following the offer of the Government of Japan, inviting proposals for technical cooperation under their Technical Cooperation programme for Metro & Railway Projects in the main cities of different States in India. He said that Japanese firm has offered financial support to the project as well.
“Formal letter of intent in favour of M/s RITES issued by J&K ERA was handed over to the representative of M/s RITES, Piyush Kansal, Group General Manager M/s RITES here today,” the CEO maintained.
Replying to a question, the CEO ERA claimed that decision in this regard was taken about a month back during a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti. It was also decided that initially, the RITEs will prepare DPR for a length of 45 kms in Srinagar city and 30 kms for the capital city of Jammu.
Giving more details, the Chief Executive Officer said that company will provide preliminary report within one month. But for the Detailed Project Report, one year time has been given to the company. He said it will be premature to give estimate about the total project cost in Srinagar as well as for Jammu Metro Rail projects. During survey, the RITEs men would reveal how many kms of length would be under ground and how much above ground. The cost under ground per kilometer may be about three times more than on the ground. So the company experts will access the total cost of the project. The completion time of both the projects will also be fixed after the DPRs are prepared, he added.
Identifying the 30 kms route of Metro in Jammu city, the CEO said that in the winter capital city the route will be from Amphalla Chowk to Bari Brahmana via Bikram Chowk, Gandhi Nagar, Satwari & Bakshi Nagar to Purmandal Morh via BC Road , Bagh-e-Bahu and Trikuta Nagar.
In Srinagar city, the 45 kms tentative routes suggested in the City Mobility Plan is from Nowgam Railway Station to SKIMS via Bagh-e-Mehtab, Rambagh, Jawahar Nagar, City Secretariat, Barbarshah, Now-hatta, Hawal, Alamgari Bazar and Pantha Chowk to Shalteng via Lasjan, Badami Bagh Lal Chowk, Civil Sectt, Tatoo Ground, Bemian.
He further disclosed that in Jammu the area like Ban Talab, Janipur, New Plot and Canal, Bohri Talab Tillo, Ploura, Akhnoor Road besides Satwari- Airport -Miran Sahib will be covered in the second phase. Some more areas of the Srinagar city will also be covered in next phase of the project.
