JAMMU, Feb 5: A review meeting of the Cross-Functional Team (CFT) for the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir was held at the Regional Office of the Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO), Jammu, to assess progress under flagship initiatives of the Ministry of Labour and Employment.
The meeting was attended by Heads of Departments of organizations functioning under the Ministry, with a focus on strengthening coordination and accelerating implementation at the regional level.
During the deliberations, members shared common experiences, exchanged relevant data, and discussed a coordinated roadmap for organizing joint outreach and awareness programmes in the coming months.
A detailed review was undertaken on the implementation strategy of the four new labour codes – the Code on Wages (2019), the Industrial Relations Code (2020), the Social Security Code (2020), and the Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code (2020). The team examined the transition roadmap and identified steps required to ensure a smooth shift to the new legal framework.
Public outreach emerged as a key focus area, with plans finalized to launch joint awareness programmes covering both organized and unorganized sectors. The objective is to ensure that employers, workers, and other stakeholders are fully informed about revised compliance requirements.
Officers also stressed the need to intensify Information, Education and Communication (IEC) activities to sensitize stakeholders about enhanced welfare measures, including overtime wages, broader social security coverage, and improved working conditions.
The meeting reviewed data related to the Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana (PMVBRY), noting that over 1,804 establishments have registered under EPFO Jammu. These registrations have benefited around 9,390 first-time employees and 15,276 rejoining employees. The outcome of the SPREE campaign conducted by the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) was also reviewed.
The meeting was attended by Sumeet Singh, Regional Provident Fund Commissioner-I, EPFO Jammu; Vikas Kundal, Regional Director, ESIC Jammu-Kashmir and Ladakh; and Ashwini Mani Tripathi, Regional Labour Commissioner (Central), Jammu, among other senior officers.
