JAMMU, Aug 29: Expressing serious concern over the reports that the 65-year-old Government Hospital building in Gandhi Nagar has been declared unsafe by a recent safety audit, Dr.Pardeep Mahotra, Media In charge BJP J&K, has urged the Union Territory administration and the Health Department to act swiftly and decisively in the interest of public safety.
Dr.Pardeep Mahotra said that Gandhi Nagar Hospital caters to the health needs of thousands of people every day, including patients, attendants, doctors, paramedics, and administrative staff. In such institutions, where human lives depend on timely treatment, infrastructure safety and quality healthcare facilities cannot be compromised under any circumstance.
Citing recent instances where heavy rains and flash floods have already caused loss of human lives, livestock, and property in different parts of the region, Dr.Pardeep stressed that the Government must take preventive steps rather than waiting for a mishap to occur. “Any delay in addressing this matter may have grave repercussions. It is time to act in advance, keeping the safety of patients and hospital staff as the top priority,” he said.
Dr.Pardeep Mahotra pointed out that suggestions are already under consideration to shift the hospital’s functioning to the adjoining maternity hospital building. In light of the safety audit, he urged the Government to expedite this decision and ensure a smooth transition without disrupting essential medical services.
