106 lodgement centres set up for yatris across Jammu

JAMMU, June 28: Director General of Police (DGP), Nalin Prabhat today chaired two high-level security and preparedness review meetings for the upcoming Shri Amarnathji Yatra in Jammu and Udhampur districts, where he directed officers to ensure an incident-free pilgrimage and to dismantle the remnants of the terror ecosystem in the region.

The DGP also underscored the need for seamless coordination among all security agencies and strict enforcement of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to eliminate potential threats to the annual yatra.

While the meeting at Jammu’s Convention Centre was attended by IGP Jammu Zone, Bhimsen Tuti; IG BSF Jammu Sector, Shashank Anand; Divisional Commissioner Jammu Ramesh Kumar; DIG Traffic Jammu, Dr Haseeb Mughal; DIG JSK Range, Shiv Kumar Sharma; SSP Jammu, Joginder Singh, and senior officers from the Army’s 16 Corps and 26 Division, JKP, CAPFs, NSG, telecom department, and various intelligence wings, the meeting at DPL Udhampur was attended by DIG U-R range, Sarah Rizvi; SSP Udhampur, Amod Nagpure; Additional SP Udhampur, other senior officers of District Police, CRPF, CISF, and Traffic Police.
SSP Jammu, Joginder Singh, gave a detailed PowerPoint presentation on the arrangements made for the Yatra within Jammu district.
He briefed about the security deployments and facilities for pilgrims at lodgement centres, registration centres, and the token distribution points.
The SSP also highlighted key initiatives like the installation of Facial Recognition Systems (FRS) and deployment of anti-drone technology to strengthen overall security.
Senior officers from the Army, CAPFs, and intelligence agencies also presented their respective plans and readiness status.
Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Ramesh Kumar, informed the DGP about the establishment of 106 lodgement centres across the region and said the administration is well-prepared to provide pilgrims with adequate boarding and lodging facilities.
He appreciated the coordination between various departments and agencies to ensure smooth conduct of the Yatra.
During the interaction, the DGP issued strict instructions for enforcing the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and taking all necessary proactive measures to eliminate potential threats.
He emphasized the need for advanced surveillance, real-time monitoring, and increased deployment of anti-sabotage teams along the Yatra route.
He also stressed dismantling any remnants of the terror ecosystem.
The meeting concluded with a joint resolve to ensure the Yatra is conducted in a peaceful, safe, and well-coordinated manner.
At DPL Udhampur, the SSP Udhampur gave a detailed presentation highlighting the district’s security plan, including deployment of security forces, convoy and traffic management, safety of camps and langar sites, emergency plans, and readiness of Quick Reaction Teams.
Addressing the meeting, the DGP emphasized on all the officers to maintain close coordination with each other to ensure an incident free yatra.
He directed that the zonal/sectoral officers must have the information regarding the availability and location of special teams like drone units, BD squad, dog squad, QRTs etc. to ensure that services of these teams are utilised on real time basis in case of any emergency.
He reiterated that every officer deputed for the yatra must be aware of his/her role and responsibility.
He also directed the officers to ensure that all SOPs issued for the purpose are followed in letter and spirit.
The 38-day-long Yatra to the holy cave shrine in south Kashmir is set to begin on July 3. The first batch of pilgrims will depart from the Jammu-based Bhagwati Nagar base camp on July 2.
