JAMMU, Oct 17: Senior Congress leader and District Development Council (DDC) member, Suchetgarh, Taranjit Singh Tony, today raised urgent concern regarding the quality of drinking water supplied to residents of Jammu city.
In a statement issued here today, Tony urged the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to intervene and ensure the provision of clean and potable drinking water to the people residing in several localities including Bagh-e-Bahu, Qasim Nagar, Rajiv Nagar, Bathindi, Sunjwan, Chatha, Chowadhi and parts of Sainik Colony.
He emphasized that the water currently supplied is of extremely poor quality, rendering it non-drinkable and posing significant health risks to the residents.
“People are being provided with the dirtiest water, which is not suitable for consumption. It is unacceptable that, while our community struggles for basic necessities, the Jal Shakti Department has failed to address this critical issue,” Tony stated.
He urged the Jal Shakti Department to take immediate action and regularize tanker services to ensure that clean drinking water is consistently supplied to the affected areas.
Tony highlighted the pressing need for Government accountability and effective service delivery in addressing the water crisis faced by residents. He reiterated that access to clean water is a fundamental right and must be prioritized.
