Enhancing perks of MLAs, MLCs unjustified: Pensioners

Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, June 26: Municipal and Urban Local Bodies Pensioners Association today said that enhancing perks of Legislators again and again is highly unjustified move and amounts to exerting more burden on the general public and tax paying class.
In a meeting of the Association held here today under the chairmanship of Y S Jamwal, president, the members of the body and other pensioners discussed several burning issues. They strongly criticized the State Government headed by Mehbooba Mufti for the formulation of a committee of different parties legislators for the purpose to enhance perks/ salary of the ministers as well as MLAs/ MLCs and their private secretaries.
The Association members strongly criticized the move and expressed serious concern that two years ago in the tenure of former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah double enhancement was made in their favour so it is not justified to again and again enhance the perks of the self interested Legislators.
It is well known to the general public that a number of demands of the employees/ pensioners and the general public are pending, which include regularisation of daily wagers, contractual workers, NHM employees, issues like removal of pay anomalies, hike in Medical allowance, Anganwadi workers/ helpers, ASHA workers, merger of 50% DA in the basic pension of employees/ pensioners, implementation of 7th Pay Commission report as well. It is unfortunate that instead of resolving these public issues and providing adequate ration to the public besides uninterrupted power and water supply, the minister and Legislators are only interested in their own welfare and hell bent to enhance their own salaries and perks. The people have given mandate to the BJP and PDP to resolve their issues but these people are hell bent to misuse the public money.
They said that the State Governor must intervene into the matter and The Prime Minister and Chief Minister should also keep check on such acts of these Legislators who are going to plunder the public money creating strong resentment among the people and especially the youth of the State.
Prominent among those present in the meeting included B S Jamwal, K G Khajuria, B D Verma, R K Gupta, M L Gupta, J L Sharma, C L Koul, Daya Singh, Balbir Singh, Bahu-ud-Din, Gurdev Singh, Attar Singh, S K Sharma, Suram Singh and Indu Bhushan.
