JPDCL launches DSM initiatives under BEE prog

JAMMU, Dec 29: The Jammu Power Distribution Corporation Limited (JPDCL), in collaboration with the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), Ministry of Power, Government of India, today organised a launching event for Demand Side Management (DSM) initiatives under the capacity building of DISCOMs programme at the Government Convention Centre, Jammu.
The event was graced by Additional Chief Secretary, Power Development Department, Shailendra Kumar as the Chief Guest while Chairperson Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission (JERC), J&K and Ladakh, Raj Kumar Chaudhary attended as the Guest of Honour.
Addressing the gathering, the ACS underscored the importance of energy efficiency as a key pillar of power sector reforms. He stated that Demand Side Management plays a vital role in reducing peak demand, improving reliability of power supply and lowering costs for consumers. He assured continued support of the Government for initiatives aimed at sustainable and efficient power consumption.
He said that the DSM initiatives launched included replacement of non-star rated air-conditioners and conventional fans with energy-efficient models, promotion of rooftop solar systems and walk-through energy audits for industries. These measures are expected to result in significant peak demand reduction and improved energy efficiency across the Union Territory, he added.
In his address, the Chairperson, JERC, described DSM as one of the most cost-effective tools available to the power sector. He emphasised that energy saved is always cheaper than additional generation. He appreciated JPDCL’s efforts towards consumer-centric and sustainable reforms.
In his closing remarks, the Managing Director, JPDCL, reiterated the utility’s commitment towards promoting energy efficiency, consumer welfare and long-term sustainability through close collaboration with Government agencies, regulators, industry bodies and citizens. He called for active participation of all stakeholders in making energy efficiency a shared responsibility.
The event witnessed the participation of Arun Gupta, President, Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) Jammu; Rahul Sahai, Chairman, Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC), J&K; Virender Jain, Chairman, Federation of Industries; Lalit Mahajan, President, Bari Brahmana Industrial Association; K. B. Jandyal, IAS (Retd.); Ashok Gupta, IPS (Retd.); and Dushyant Chaudhary, Chairman, Rotary Club Jammu besides several prominent industrialists and leading citizens.
Senior officials from the Bureau of Energy Efficiency, Power Development Department and JPDCL were also present on the occasion.
