JAMMU, Nov 16: BSP J&K has condemned the ruthless removal of street vendors and small hawkers from across the Jammu roads during some VIP movement.
In a handout BSP Jammu president, Darshan Rana expressed anguish over the way Police and civic authorities clear roadside vendors several times a day, since the administration shifted to Jammu for the winter.
The BSP leader said that the action of the authorities reflect an insensitive, anti-poor and inhumane approach, where the weakest sections of society are being treated as if they are criminals.
“These vendors are not a nuisance but are citizens of this country. Their small stalls are not an obstacle to the VIP movement but are lifeline for their survival,” Rana said adding: “If the system cannot provide them with jobs, it should at least not snatch away the little they have.”
He demanded that the Lieutenant Governor should intervene and direct all departments to adopt a humane, balanced and dignified method of managing VIP movements.
