Security forces established contact with three terrorists at village Jopher in Ramnagar tehsil of Udhampur district this afternoon.
“During a search operation by police and other security forces, contact was established with terrorists at village Jopher,” the Udhampur police said on X.
They stated that two to three terrorists are trapped.
“Firing is ongoing,” they added.
SSP Udhampur Amod Nagpure said the area is very inaccessible due to high mountains, a river below and a dense forest.
“We have information that two to three terrorists are hiding in middle of this forest. This search operation is going on. Morale of security forces is very high and we will be successful. The firing went on for about two hours and security personnel retaliated effectively,” he said.
Contact with another group of terrorists was established by security forces at Pingnad in Naidgam area of Chatroo in Kishtwar district this evening.
More security personnel have been rushed to the spot, the sources said, adding efforts are being made to eliminate the hiding terrorists.
In almost the same area, an encounter also took place in September last year but the terrorists had managed to escape.
Police and security forces have been tracking terrorists moving from one area to another for the past 17 days following three encounters since the operation started on March 24 in the Sanyal area of Hiranagar sector in Kathua district.
Two terrorists were killed and four policemen were martyred in the encounter in the area on March 27.
