Addressing a press conference here, EJAC General Secretary Sajjad Parray said that while the Chief Minister has acknowledged the hardships faced by daily wagers, there is still ambiguity surrounding the nature and scope of the policy promised by the Government.
Parray said the Chief Minister had described the issue as a long-pending and humanitarian concern, recognising the difficult conditions under which these workers have served and their contribution to public service.
“The Chief Minister spoke about regularisation with dignity, job security and a stable future, which gave us hope,” he said.
However, he added that the statement that a regularisation policy would be brought only after the committee submits its report has created confusion and uncertainty among workers.
“We were expecting the announcement of a comprehensive policy in the current Assembly session, as promised earlier. Instead, we were told to wait again,” he said.
Seeking clarity, Parray said the Government must specify whether the proposed policy would cover workers who have already retired or those nearing retirement.
He also demanded clarity on whether the policy would include benefits such as grade pay, basic pay, medical facilities, children’s education allowance, transport allowance and old pension benefits.
“What about workers who have died on duty? Will their families be covered under this policy? These are critical questions that need immediate answers,” he said.
Parray also reminded the Government of its election promises, including regularisation of daily wagers, implementation of the Minimum Wages Act, revival of public sector units, and welfare of Anganwadi workers.
