Addressing a press conference here, EJAC vice-president Khalid Rafiq Bhat sought immediate release and enhancement of the cooks’ honorarium, terming the delay as injustice to the workers and their families.
“Both the Chief Minister and the concerned Minister have stated that their files have been put up and the issue will be addressed. We hope action will be taken soon,” Bhat said.
He warned that if the matter remained unresolved and workers continued to suffer, they would be compelled to protest on the roads to press for their demands.
“We have already submitted a memorandum and assurances have been made, but no timeline has been given,” he added.
The All Jammu and Kashmir Cooks Association, working under the banner of EJAC and led by Wajahat Husain Durani, had convened the briefing to highlight the pressing issues faced by the community of cooks across the union territory.
Participants strongly demanded release of pending wages and enhancement of honorarium, calling it a matter of justice and dignity for their services.
Prominent EJAC leaders present on the occasion included: Mehraj Din Piswal, District president EJAC Kupwara, Mushtaq Ahmad Theikry, District vice President EJAC Kupwara, Rifat Ji, District president Cooks Association Kupwara and District president Cooks Association Bandipora
