Eight gamblers arrested, stake money seized in R S Pura

JAMMU, July 28: Jammu and Kashmir Police have arrested eight individuals and recovered Rs 16,500 in stake money from their possession during a raid conducted in Ward Number 10 of the RS Pura town.
The operation was led by SHO Inspector Ravi Singh Parihar, assisted by ASI Ashok Kumar, while the team was on routine patrol duty.
A police official said the police team received a tip-off regarding illegal gambling activities in the area and immediately conducted a raid, recovering two decks of playing cards along with the cash.
Preventive action under Section 13 of the Gambling Act was initiated, and the accused were produced before the Judicial Magistrate First Class, R S Pura, he said.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Kuldeep Kumar and Shamsher Singh, both residents of Ward Number 10; Harmeet Singh of Ward Number 8; Mohit Kumar and Tilak Raj of Ward Number 9; Mohd Aslam and Ved Raj of Tahal Khadika, Jammu; and Shami, also of Ward Number 10, R S Pura.
Meanwhile, in a statement, the police warned that persons involving in such illegal activities shall be dealt with strictly in accordance of the law.
