Annual International Kite Festival, Gujarat’s most eagerly awaited event, is all set to commence from January 7 in presence of more than 100 global kitists from across the world.
The eight-day kite festival will conclude on January 14, the Makar Sankranti day.
Addressing a news conference here this morning, State Energy Minister Saurabh Patel said that this year’s festival will be hosted in several cities like Mumbai, Vadodara, Delhi and Ahmedabad.
It will be celebrated in Ahmedabad from January 12 onwards at the Sabarmati river front where the festivities will be held in presence of Chief Minister Narendra Modi who will launch the festival formally.
The International Kite Festival will see more than 100 international kitists from countries like the United Kingdom, France, Italy, Singapore, Switzerland, Spain, Netherlands, Brazil, South Korea, Indonesia,Vietnam, Philippines, Thailand, Curacao, Ukraine, Israel, China, Belgium, New Zealand, Cambodia, Lithuania and Malaysia.
The festival will culminate in Ahmedabad, at the Sabarmati River Front on January 12 and 13 and in old quarters of the city on January 14.
The Kite Festival was first launched in 1989 in Ahmedabad, which was attended by Sir Edmond Hillary, legendary mountaineer, and the first person to scale Mt. Everest. (UNI)
