JAMMU, Oct 2: Various educational institutions celebrated birth anniversary of Father of the Nation ‘Mahatma Gandhi’ and former Prime Minister of India Lal Bahadur Shastri and also organized cleanliness drives to mark the first anniversary of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
NSS Units of GGM Science College organized a peace rally to celebrate Gandhi Jayanti. The peace rally was flagged off by the Nodal Principal of Jammu Division College Dr Ajeet Angral in the presence of Dr Rajinder Singh and Dr Vinod Bakshi, Programme Officers of the College. The rally started from GGM Science College, Jammu and passed through Canal Road, Bakshi Nagar, Medical College, KC Theatre, Jewel Chowk and finally culminated at GGM Science College. After the rally, Programme Officers and the NSS Volunteers led by the Principal paid homage to the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi.
Ramisht College of Education, Basohli celebrated Gandhi Jayanti. The staff and students took oath to follow the footsteps of Mahatma Gandhi as the world acknowledge the principles of Gandhi as good source for social and spiritual development of humanity.
Gandhi Memorial College of Education, Raipur, Bantalab celebrated Gandhi Jayanti. The programme started with traditional lighting of lamp by Principal GMCEJ, Prof Satish Talashi along with Subhan Ali, Manager Central Bank of India, Nardani Branch and staff of GMCEJ. The programme was marked by patriotic songs, dances and poems by the students. The students and staff also participated in cleanliness drive. The programme concluded with a prize distribution function for the winners in different sports categories.
Students and staff members of Government Higher Secondary School, Dansal paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi. On the occasion, students threw light on the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi. Inter House debate competition was organized in which Kajal of class 9th stood first. Principal Vijay Kumar, Shyam Swarup, Master and Dr Anju Gupta, Senior Lecturer, Economics were also present on the occasion.
Gandhi Jayanti was celebrated at GHSS Ghar Samnabanj Udhampur. Principal Gopal Chaudhary, staff members and students pay floral tribute to Mahatma Gandhi. On the occasion, students participated in debate programme.
Swaach Bharat Abhiyan and Gandhi Jayanti were celebrated at Government Higher Secondary School, Bharakh, Reasi. On the occasion, Suraj Parkash Khajuria, Principal along with staff and students paid homage to the Father of the Nation. A cleanliness drive was initiated by the staff and students of the school.
Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Satwari celebrated Gandhi Jayanti.  ML Sharma, Principal addressed the student and staff members and also paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi. The students and staff members also expressed their views on the importance of the day. Later, a cleanliness drive “Swachh Bharat Abhiyan” was launched in the school premises by the students and staff. Students also sang patriotic songs, dances and poems.
Shri Ranbir Model Higher School celebrated birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri. Principal KC Khajuria, staff members and students paid floral tribute to these great leaders. The students threw light on Gandhian philosophy. A skit on need of education was also organized. A cleanliness drive under “Swaach Bharat Abhiyaan was also carried out.
Government Higher Secondary School, Smailpur celebrated Gandhi Jayanti and paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi. Principal Subhash Chander, staff and students were present on the occasion.

Gandhi Jayanti and birth anniversary of Lal Bahadur Shastri were celebrated at Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Bakshi Nagar. Floral tributes were paid to the great leaders by Principal Rajni Kotwal, students and staff members. Students presented patriotic songs and skits.
Gandhi Jayanti was celebrated at Government GHSS Mubarak Mandi. Principal Neelam Gandotra offered floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi and threw light on the life style of Mahatma Gandhi and advised the students to follow the footprints of Father of the nation. The students also delivered speeches and assured to follow the Gandhi philosophy. All the students and the staff took part in cleanliness drive in the institution. Vice Principal Dr Satvir Gupta was also present on the occasion.
Gandhi Jayanti was celebrated at Government HSS Ghoumanhasan. Floral tributes were paid to Father of the Nation by Principal JR Sharma and staff members.
A function was held in Government Girls Higher Secondary School Jakh to celebrate birth anniversary of Father of Nation Mahatama Gandhi and late Former Prime Minister of India Lal Bahadur Shashtri. Deputy Commissioner Samba, Sheetal Nanda along with all staff members and children paid floral tributes to both the leaders. Poem recitation and slogan writing competitions were held during the programme. DC distributed prizes amongst the best performers. Chief Education Officer Samba OP Bhagat, Principal Deepak Gupta and other staff members were also present on the occasion.

United Public Higher Secondary School, Channi Himmat celebrated its silver jubilee and Gandhi Jayanti. The events were marked by the cultural dogri folk songs and dances. Sarika Sharma, Secretary of the Management Committee and Pooja member of the Management Committee presented the vote of thanks.
Kotwal National Institute of Teaching, Bharat Nagar celebrated birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bhadur Shastri. Students threw light on the lives of the great leaders. Director of the institute Jai Lal Kotwal and other speakers on the occasion impressed upon the students to follow the teachings of the great leaders. A cleanliness drive was also organized. A cleanliness competition among various houses was also held and the best clean class was awarded.
Glorious tributes were paid to Father of Nation Mahatma Gandhi in a function at Harsh Niketan Higher Secondary School at Sunderbani. Over 100 tiny tots of the primary level participated in symposium on the “Life and Teachings of MK Gandhi”. In Block A of the school, Madhav Gupta, Shashi kant and Ityshree bagged first three positions respectively from Senior Group whereas Sarvani Sharma, Vishranti Sharma and Vivek Gupta clinched first three positions respectively from the Junior Group. Similarly from Block-B, Shallu Sharma, Damini Sharma, Vivaan Sharma bagged first three positions from Senior Group whereas from the Junior group Savinay Gupta, Uthkarsh, Anshu Gupta, Sanjeev Sharma, Arush Sharma, Aarav Sharma and Jashandeep Singh clinched first three positions respectively. Songs and Poetry recitation were also presented by the students on the occasion. Personified tiny tots in the make up of Mahatma Gandhi were the main attraction of the function. Winners were awarded with citations and gifts.
The birth anniversary of the Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri was celebrated at RN Tagore Higher Secondary School, Nanak Nagar. Chairperson of the school Vishno Devi presided over the function. The function started with the speech of Tania of Class-8th and Arti Devi of Class-11th on Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri. A colourful program was presented by students of different classes. On the occasion a fancy dress competition was organised in which the tiny toddlers of the school were dressed as Mahatma Gandhi, Lal Bahadur Shastri, Pandit Jawahar lal Nehru, Bhagat Singh, Kasturba Bai, etc. A cleanliness drive was organised in terms of inter class competition for cleanliness, in which class 8th stood first followed by class 10th. The function ended with the speech of Principal of the school Hitesh Mahajan.
Gandhi Jayanti was celebrated at Government High School, Rown, Udhampur. The students and staff members highlighted the importance of the day. Headmaster Kuldeep Kumar Sudan was also present on the occasion, A cleanliness drive was also organized.
Government High School, Keri, Zone Bhalwal celebrated Gandhi Jayanti. On the occasion, various items were organized including debate, speeches, painting and folk dance. Incharge Headmaster threw light on the importance of the day.
Students and staff members of GHS Janglote and GMS Janglote jointly celebrated Gandhi Jayanti and paid tributes to Mahatma Gandhi on his birth anniversary. A rally was also organized related to “Swaach Bharat Abhiyan”.
Sai Shyam Public School celebrated Gandhi Jayanti. The programme started with the lighting of traditional lamp by Chairman of the Sai Shyam Educational Society CL Tickoo. The programme comprised debates, Kawalis and patriotic songs. Students of the school participated in this colourful programme. Lastly, Incharge Principal of Sai Shyam Public School Ms. Anita Raina threw light on the significance of Gandhi Jayanti.
Doon International School celebrated Gandhi Jayanti. The students presented a musical skit based on the victory of Ahinsa in today’s scenario. The students were attired as Father of the Nation. Chairman GN Tantray and Principal Vikesh Kaur were also present.
Government High School, Aithem, Zone Gandhi Nagar celebrated Gandhi Jayanti week. Floral tributes were paid to Father of the Nation. Anita Sharma, Headmaster of the school threw light on the importance of the day.
