Educational institutions celebrate 79th Independence Day with patriotic fervour

JAMMU, Aug 16: The 79th Independence Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm and patriotic fervour by educational institutions across Jammu and Kashmir, remembering sacrifices made by countless individuals during the freedom struggle.
Central University of Jammu (CUJ) celebrated 79th Independence Day with great enthusiasm and patriotic fervour. Vice Chancellor, Prof Sanjeev Jain, hoisted the National Flag and inspected the parade. In his address, Prof Jain described Independence Day as an opportunity to recall our values and principles, and urged the youth to play a leading role in making India a developed nation during the Amrit Kaal.
In Central University of Kashmir (CUK), VC Prof A Ravinder Nath, hoisted the National Flag at Tulmulla Campus. The security wing and the students of the Department of Physical Education performed the march past on the occasion. At the Green Campus, the Tricolor was hoisted by Dean School of Business Studies, Prof Fayaz Ahmad Nikka and at the Nuner Campus, the National Flag was hoisted by Prof Mohammad Yousuf, Dean School of Physical and Chemical Sciences.
Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) celebrated the Day with great patriotic spirit, enthusiasm and unity. The celebrations commenced with the unfurling of the National Flag by VC Prof (Dr) Pragati Kumar, followed by the rendition of the National Anthem by the university fraternity. In his address, the VC paid homage to the sacrifices of the freedom fighters. SMVDU NCC Cadets presented a ceremonial parade, saluting the National Flag and adding grandeur to the celebrations.
The Day was celebrated with great patriotic fervor at both campuses of SKUAST-Jammu. VC Dr BN Tripathi, hoisted the National Flag in the presence of all statutory officers, faculty, non-teaching staff and students. In his address, Dr Tripathi reflected on the historical path to freedom. For the first time in the University’s history, NCC cadets of J&K (01) Air Squadron saluted the Tiranga and escorted the VC to the podium for the flag hoisting.
In Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Jammu, the Day began with a ceremonial Guard of Honour, followed by the hoisted of the sacred Indian Tricolour by Prof B S Sahay, Director IIM Jammu, in the presence of faculty, staff, and students. In his address, Prof Sahay reflected on the transformative journey of a “New India,” guided by the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
University of Jammu (JU) celebrated Independence Day with patriotic fervour and enthusiasm. Vice Chancellor Prof Umesh Rai, hoisted the Tricolour amid recital of National Anthem. He was accorded a Guard of Honour by the University Security Wing led by Capt S R Dubey and the NCC Girls Wing. This was followed by the release of tri-colour balloons, symbolizing peace, unity and national pride.
NIT Srinagar celebrated the 79th Independence Day with patriotic fervor. In-Charge Director Prof. Roohi Naaz hoisted the Tricolour and inspected parade contingents. She emphasized innovation, civic responsibility and nation-building. Cultural performances, NCC participation and tributes to freedom fighters marked the event, which concluded at Bakshi Stadium.
To commemorate 79th Independence Day, Kawa College of Education, Patoli (Jammu), a simple but impressive function was organized. Managing Director Abhimanyu Katoch along with Ayush Katoch (Director) and Principal Dr Bharti Sharma hoisted the Tricolour along with students and staff which was followed by the National Anthem.
Rajiv Gandhi College of Nursing, Chak Bhalwal (Jammu) celebrated the Day with patriotic fervour. The event was graced by the presence of M S Katoch, Chairman of RGCN, as chief guest. He hoisted the Tricolour. Aman and Ashok from Voice and Vibe were special guests. They were accompanied by Anjana Bavouria, Director of RGCN, and faculty members of RGCN.
Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Pharmacy celebrated the 79th Independence Day with patriotic fervor. Director Dr. Heena Jamwal hoisted the flag in presence of Principal Dr Gourav Nanda. Cultural programs, patriotic performances and inspiring speeches marked the event. Faculty, students and staff participated enthusiastically, honoring the nation’s journey and vision for a developed India.
Bhartiya Group of Colleges, Udhampur commemorated the 79th Independence Day with patriotic zeal under the theme “Naya Bharat.” Chairperson Madhu Khajuria hoisted the flag. Speeches, cultural tributes, student felicitations and recognition of achievements in academics and sports marked the event, highlighting youth empowerment and the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
Government College of Education, Chandigarh celebrated the 79th Independence Day with patriotic fervor. Dr. Suman Khokar hoisted the Tricolour, followed by a speech from Principal Dr. Sapna Nanda, who emphasized the vision of Viksit Bharat and Amrit Kaal. Students presented patriotic songs and sweets were distributed among the 100 attendees.
Gandhi Memorial College, Jammu celebrated 79th Independence Day with patriotic zeal. General Secretary of Hindu Education Society Kashmir (HESK), Prof. Virender Rawal hoisted the flag, followed by cultural performances and heartfelt tributes. Speeches addressed national unity, development and Kishtwar tragedy. The event concluded with a vote of thanks, inspiring unity, responsibility and remembrance among attendees.
Trikuta Group of Colleges celebrated the 79th Independence Day with patriotic fervor. Chairperson Suman Sharma hoisted the National Flag in the presence of Managing Directors Ritesh and Ravish Sharma, CEOs Japna and Jasudha Sharma and CEO/Principal Nitin Mahajan. She urged students and staff to honour freedom fighters’ sacrifices and embrace their role in nation-building.

GDC Khour celebrated Independence Day with a spirit of patriotism and solidarity. The event commenced with the hoisting of the National Flag by the Principal Prof (Dr) T K Sharma. This was followed by singing of the National Anthem.
In GDC Bani, the Tricolour was hoisted by Principal Dr Manohar Lal. It was followed by rendition of National Anthem by NSS volunteers and staff members.
GDC Neeli Nallah (Udhampur) celebrated Independence Day with great zeal and enthusiasm. Prof (Dr) Seema Arora, Principal of the College, hoisted the National Flag. It was followed by the singing of National Anthem. The students also presented inspirational speeches and patriotic poems.
In GDC Kathua, Prof Savi Behl, Principal of the College, hoisted the National Flag in presence faculty members and staff. National Anthem was sung by NSS volunteers. In her address, she stated that we must feel proud to be Indian.
GDC Marh celebrated the Day with great fervour and patriotic zeal. The flag hoisting was done by Prof Ramneek Kaur, Principal of the College, followed by the rendition of the National Anthem. The celebrations featured a diverse range of activities that fostered patriotism, unity, and awareness among students and the community.
In Government Deputy SP Aman Thakur Memorial Degree College Kastigarh, the celebration began with the hoisting of the National Flag, followed by the singing of the National Anthem and speech of Prof Koshal Kumar Mangotra, Principal of the College.
GDC Nagrota organized its Independence Day celebrations with immense patriotic fervor and reverence. The celebrations began with hoisting of the National Flag by Principal Prof Anjali Mahajan accompanied by staff and students. GDC R S Pura celebrated the Day with a renewed commitment to the values of freedom and unity. The program was started with hoisting of the National Flag by Principal Prof (Dr) Preetpal Kour, followed by National Anthem. The drill was also performed by NCC cadets of the college.
Faculty and students of GDC Khaltse celebrated Independence Day at the College campus. The celebration commenced with Dr Sameena Iqbal, Principal of the College, hoisting the National Flag followed by singing of National Anthem.
In a grand display of patriotism and unity, the campus of GDC Sunderbani was adorned with Tricolour flags, vibrant floral decorations, and patriotic motifs on Independence Day. Principal, Prof (Dr) Vandana Verma hoisted the Tricolour.
GDC Vijaypur celebrated the Day with great zeal on its campus. The ceremony commenced with the hoisting of the National Flag by the Principal of the College, Dr Ashu Vashisht followed by the soulful rendition of the National Anthem by students and staff. In GDC Katra, the celebrations commenced with the flag hoisting ceremony followed by an inspiring address by Principal Dr Rajni Bhagat. The programme began with a lamp-lighting ceremony, after which Principal Dr Bhagat addressed the gathering, highlighting the significance of the Day.
GDC Ramnagar celebrated the Day with great enthusiasm. The programme commenced with the ceremonial hoisting of the National Flag by the Principal Prof (Dr) Bhavnaish Chand Anthal. In his address, he highlighted the significance of Day as a tribute to the supreme sacrifices made by the freedom fighters for the country’s liberation.
In GDC Thannamandi campus, the programme began with an impressive NCC parade and March- past under the guidance of Principal Prof (Dr) Farooq Ahmad, followed by the unfurling of the National Flag.
Government Degree College (GDC) Bishnah celebrated the 79th Independence Day with enthusiasm. Principal Dr. Shalu Samyal hoisted the tricolour, followed by national anthem and patriotic slogans. The event marked the conclusion of month-long celebrations featuring quizzes, cultural programs and competitions, with winners advancing to lead colleges for participation.
GGM Science College Jammu observed the 79th Independence Day with patriotic fervor, honoring Padder Kishtwar cloudburst victims. Principal Dr. Romesh Kumar Gupta hoisted the flag as NCC contingents participated. A two-minute silence was held, emphasizing unity, compassion, and collective resilience amid the tragedy.
Partap World School, Pathankot, celebrated Independence Day with great enthusiasm, unity and pride. The celebration commenced with the hoisting of the National Flag, accompanied by the singing of the National Anthem. Following the flag-hoisting ceremony, students presented a series of cultural performances. Director Sunny Mahajan said, “Independence Day is not just about celebrating our freedom; it is a reminder of the responsibility we hold towards our nation”. Director Oshin Mahajan and Principal Subhra Rani also spoke on the occasion.
Humanity Public School, Bassi Kalan, Bari Brahmana celebrated the 79th Independence Day with patriotic zeal. The event featured flag hoisting, inspiring speeches, poems, songs, dances and a theatrical act on India’s freedom struggle. Principal Gaurav Charak urged students to uphold national values.
The Shri Ram Universal School celebrated Independence Day with patriotic zeal. Flag hoisting was followed by cultural performances, including songs, poetry and a skit on India’s freedom struggle. The Principal’s address emphasized national responsibility and unity.

Shiksha Niketan Senior Secondary School, Jammu, celebrated Independence Day and Janmashtami with patriotic zeal and cultural fervor. Principal hoisted the flag; Major Rahul inspired students on freedom and duty.
International Delhi Public School, Akhnoor, celebrated the 79th Independence Day with a grand flag hoisting ceremony led by chief guest SHO Rajesh Jasrotia. The event was graced by dignitaries from various fields.
Delhi Public School Nagbani celebrated the 79th Independence Day with flag hoisting by chief guest Surinder Kumar, MLA Marh. Teachers’ patriotic songs and an inspiring speech by Neha Choudhary honoured freedom fighters. The chief guest praised Principal R K Verma and staff for nurturing academic and patriotic values.
In Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) Mandal, MLA Surinder Kumar hoisted the National Flag, symbolizing national pride and unity. He emphasized the importance of independence in the present scenario, highlighting India’s achievements under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Government.
Kotwal National Institute of Teaching (KNIT) Bharat Nagar (Talab Tillo, Jammu) marked Independence Day with a series of activities that showcased the students’ patriotism. Flag-Hoisting ceremony was done by Director KNIT JL Kotwal along with Principal Bimla Blawria. It was followed by a colourful cultural programme featuring patriotic songs, dances and speeches.
The patriotic fervour echoed through the corridors of GHSS Battal Ballian (Udhampur) as the Institution celebrated the 79th Independence Day with a spectacular event showcasing the spirit of unity, diversity and National pride. The hoisting of the Tricolor was done by Puran Chand, DDC Udhampur 1.
BN HSS Sunjwan, Jammu, observed Patriotic Week in connection with Independence Day, promoting national pride among students. Cultural events were limited as a tribute to the Kishtwar tragedy victims. A brief student performance was held and Principal Aasiya Shabir Banday emphasized patriotism and unity. Participants were awarded certificates and medals.
Government Hari Singh School Camp Bohri, Jammu, celebrated the 79th Independence Day with patriotic zeal and a tribute to Kishtwar flood victims. Chief guest Amrita Bangroo Anand and Principal Sanjay Kumar Pandita emphasized nation-building. The 79th Independence Day was celebrated at GHSS Diskit, Nubra, where SDM Mukul Beniwal hoisted the National Flag. Highlights included a March Past by local schools, cultural performances and exhibitions. The SDM praised departmental achievements and lauded Nubra schools for their UT-level academic excellence and success in the science exhibition.
Several schools in Udhampur celebrated Independence Day with enthusiasm and patriotism. At Bhartiya Vidya Mandir Hr. Sec. School, Nainsu, Principal Renu Sharma hoisted the flag, followed by Saraswati Vandana and active participation from students across all grades. Sanmati Vimal Jain Academy’s celebrations featured the tri-colour unfurling by President Swami Divyanand Maharaj and Principal Manvi Raina. New Modern Academy Chak Rakwala marked the occasion with Vice Principal Shemim Akhter hoisting the flag. At Govt. Middle School Dudial Zone, Headmaster Mohd Mukhtyar Khan led a march past and emphasized the significance of Independence Day.

The 79th Independence Day was observed at PM Shri Govt High School Kotli Tanda (Akhnoor) with Headmaster Nasib Singh as chief guest. The event included flag hoisting, national anthem, march past, and speeches. Celebrations were limited following instructions due to the recent tragedy in Chishoti, Padder, Kishtwar.

Government Middle School Sangli, Zone Kulwanta, celebrated Independence Day with flag hoisting by Headmaster Kuldeep Kumar, attended by staff, locals, and VEC members. A March Past and sweet distribution followed. Kuldeep Kumar highlighted the sacrifices of freedom fighters and India’s long struggle for independence from British colonial rule.
