Srinagar, Jan 18: Transport Commissioner Vishesh Paul Mahajan today stated that e-rickshaws are mandated to charge a maximum of Rs 10 per kilometer per person and must not exceed the set limit.
Speaking with reporters, Mahajan emphasized that e-rickshaws are allowed to operate only up to a maximum distance of six kilometers, while other autos are required to charge fares as per the meter.

“For e-rickshaws, the rate is Rs 10 per kilometer per person, up to a maximum of six kilometers. They are restricted to notified routes and cannot exceed the designated distance,” he said.
He further clarified that all autos, except e-rickshaws, must operate with functional meters. “Those operating without meters will face action. The rates for such vehicles are fixed,” Mahajan warned.
In cases where passengers are being overcharged, Mahajan urged the public to report the incidents to the authorities, providing vehicle details to enable appropriate action.
Regarding delays in the issuance of newly printed driving licenses, the Transport Commissioner said that the tender process is in its final stages, and printing is expected to resume by the end of January.
“The printing of driving licenses is currently on hold. As an interim measure, 2 lakh licenses have been printed. Once the tender is finalized-expected by month-end-printing will resume, and the licenses will be dispatched,” he stated.
Until then, Mahajan urged citizens to use DigiLocker or Vahan as valid alternatives. “I have requested the IG Traffic, and the traffic police will accept these digital formats during this period,” he assured.
Stressing the importance of road safety, Mahajan highlighted the critical role of drivers in ensuring safe roads. “We are working to emphasize the drivers’ responsibilities. Several actions have been taken in this regard,” he noted.
