JAMMU, May 25: In a first-of-its-kind action, an e-bus operator was fined Rs 5,000 for wrong parking in the Amphalla area of Jammu today.
The incident took place when a driver of an e-bus operating on the Jammu-Katra route reportedly stopped the vehicle in the middle of BC Road to pick up a woman passenger and a child.
The bus was reportedly halted briefly, causing disruption to traffic movement.
Soon after, a traffic DTI issued a challan of Rs 5,000 to the driver for obstructive parking.
Passengers inside the e-bus expressed strong resentment over the move and alleged that the traffic officer misbehaved with the driver.
“It is mandated by the Government that e-buses must pick up every woman passenger. When our driver stopped for barely a minute to pick a woman who signalled, he was abused by the DTI and then handed a hefty challan. This is disappointing,” said one of the passengers.
No official comment was given by the Jammu and Kashmir Police regarding the incident.
