DySP among 2 die of COVID, 160 test +ve in J&K; 16 in Ladakh

JAMMU/SRINAGAR/ LEH, Nov 22: Two persons including a Deputy Superintendent of Police died of COVID-19 and 160 tested positive in Jammu and Kashmir today while 16 new cases were reported in the Union Territory of Ladakh.
DySP Ajay Kumar Sharma, 53, a resident of Reasi town who was posted in Ist battalion of the Indian Reserve Police (IRP) died of post-COVID complications in the Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu today. He was COVID positive but had turned negative only a day before his death.
His body was shifted to Reasi this morning for cremation.
An employee tested positive for COVID-19 in a lower court today. After the COVID case was detected, the court was shut for sanitization, contact tracing and testing.
One COVID death and 128 fresh cases were registered in Kashmir division while 32 new cases were recorded in Jammu region.
Among 32 new cases, 19 were reported from Jammu district alone and eight in Reasi district. All the cases in Reasi district were travellers who tested positive for pathogen on their arrival at Katra Railway Station.
Three cases were registered in Doda district and one each in Rajouri and Poonch districts while rest five districts in Jammu region didn’t report any cases.
As against 32 new cases, 36 persons recovered from the virus.
Jammu region now has 1,24,809 Coronavirus cases. Of them, 1,22,377 have recovered from the virus while there were 250 active positive cases and 2182 casualties.
All 16 cases in the Union Territory of Ladakh were reported from Leh district.
Ladakh’s Corona count now stood at 21327. Among them, 20885 have been treated while there were 230 active positive cases including 219 in Leh district and 11 in Kargil.
There have been 212 COVID casualties in Ladakh—154 in Leh and 58 in Kargil.
Meanwhile, Kashmir today reported 128 fresh cases of COVID-19.
Those who tested positive include 59 from Srinagar, 38 from Baramulla, 9 from Budgam, 2 from Pulwama, 5 from Kupwara, 3 from Anantnag, 2 from Bandipora and 10 from Ganderbal.
The number of cases in Kashmir division has reached 210,719 including 207,024 recoveries and 2,280 deaths.
The number of active cases in Jammu and Kashmir are 1,665 including 1,415 from Kashmir division.
With 195 more recoveries, the tally of total recoveries in Jammu and Kashmir has reached 329,401 which is 98.17 percent of the total cases.
