Drug smuggler booked under PSA, 3 others also detained

RAJOURI, Nov 15: In a crackdown on drug smuggling in Rajouri, the district police have booked notorious drug peddler Mohd Shakoor under the Public Safety Act (PSA).
Known for his decade-long involvement in drug trafficking, Shakoor has been a major threat to the youth of Rajouri, spoiling countless lives and contributing to the growing menace of addiction. His illegal activities have earned him a reputation as one of the most anti-social elements in the region, a police official said.
The police further said that Shakoor’s criminal record spans multiple offenses registered across various police stations in Jammu and Kashmir. Over the years, nine FIRs have been lodged against him, including serious charges under the RPC, NDPS Act, and Arms Act. These include FIR No. 398/2011 U/S 341/509 RPC, FIR No. 485/2011 U/S 304 RPC, FIR No. 320/2012 U/S 8/20 NDPS Act, and FIR No. 137/2013 U/S 341/323/504 RPC, among others.
Police said his criminal activities continued to escalate, with the most recent FIR No. 44/2024 U/S 8/21/22 NDPS Act filed at Police Station, Thannamandi. Furthermore, two vehicles linked to his illicit operations, a Maruti Alto (JK11E 6491) and a Scorpio (JK01M 7456), have been seized as part of the investigation.
Rajouri Police, team led by SHO Rajouri Abid Bukhari, conducted the operation, under the overall supervision of DIG Rajouri-Poonch Range, Tejinder Singh and DySP Hqrs, Satish. Shakoor has been detained under PSA vide order DMR/JC/2022/23/2870-75. He has been lodged in the jail.
It is pertinent to mention here that three more individuals involved in drug smuggling have also been booked under PSA in the past week. This brings the total number of persons detained under PSA for drug-related offenses in the last seven days to four.
The initiative by the police has received widespread appreciation from the public, who have long been concerned about the impact of drug peddling on their community. The people of Rajouri have lauded the efforts of the police and expressed their support for the ongoing campaign to eradicate drug abuse from society.
