POONCH, Mar 2: In continuation of its drive against drug- trafficking and substance abuse, District Police Poonch achieved another success by apprehending a drug- peddler during routine patrolling in the Purani Poonch area.
Reports said during patrolling, a suspicious individual was noticed moving from the Ajote side towards the Bus Stand. On observing the police presence, the person attempted to flee from the spot. However, the alert police party acted promptly and apprehended him after a brief chase.
Upon questioning, the individual disclosed his identity as Yawar Abbas, son of Iqbal Hussain, resident of Ward No. 4, Poonch. During his personal search, a black plastic bag containing approximately 8-9 grams of heroin-like substance was recovered from his possession.
Accordingly, a case FIR No. 34/2026 under Sections 8/21/22 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Poonch, and further investigation has been taken up to ascertain the source and forward linkages of the recovered contraband.
