SURANKOTE, Oct 18: In a major crackdown on drug- trafficking and habitual offenders, Surankote Police detained a notorious drug- peddler under the stringent provisions of the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT NDPS) Act.
The operation was carried out by the team of police from Surankote led by SHO, Inspector Aejaz Wani, under the supervision of SDPO Surankote, Ajaz Choudhary.
The accused, identified as Sajjad Hussain Shah alias Sajjada, son of Sarfraz Hussain Shah, resident of Potha, Tehsil Surankote, in district Poonch, has been detained under the PIT NDPS Act on the orders of the Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, vide Order No. 621/2025 dated 17.10.2025. Following the issuance of the detention order, Surankote Police took the accused into custody and lodged him in District Jail Udhampur for preventive detention.
It has been revealed that the accused is a notorious and habitual drug- peddler, actively involved in the illicit trade of narcotics and has been booked in multiple cases registered under the NDPS Act in different police stations across Jammu Province. He has previously been named in several FIRs including FIR No. 71/2020, FIR No. 62/2023, and FIR No. 11/2025, all registered at Police Station, Surankote, among others in different districts.
