Drug peddler arrested

SRINAGAR, Sept 14: Police today arrested a drug peddler in south Kashmir’s Awantipora and recovered more than 50 kilograms of cannabis powder.
Authorities said Police Station Awantipora had received information about the presence of contraband in a residential house at Padgampora.
Acting on the tip-off, police said, a team headed by the SHO Awantipora and supervised by the SDPO Awantipora raided the location.
“During search, 50 Kg and 200 grams of cannabis powder (Bung) was recovered from the house of Showkat Ahmad Wani son of Late Abdul Gani Wani resident of Padgampora Awantipora.”
Police said the accused was arrested on the spot and shifted to Police Station Awantipora, where he remains in custody.
A case under FIR No. 193/2025 has been registered under relevant sections of law, and further investigation has been initiated, according to police.
Police also urged the public to extend cooperation in curbing the drug menace. “We urge the commoners that if you witness drug peddling or any other crime anywhere near you, feel free to contact the nearest police establishment.”
