JAMMU, Feb 5: Police today claimed they have achieved major success against drug peddling in Rajiv Nagar, Bahu Fort, Bagh-e-Bahu and adjoining areas through sustained operations since 2025.
Addressing a press conference at Police Station Bahu Fort, SP South, Ajay Sharma said intensified surveillance, technical monitoring and a strengthened source network led to the registration of 27 FIRs under the NDPS Act, recovery of 1.238 kg heroin and 18 kg ganja, and the arrest of 41 persons.
He said 11 houses of drug peddlers were demolished by the civil administration, 3 bank accounts involving Rs 1.8 lakh were frozen, 1 vehicle was attached and around Rs 25 lakh was seized as proceeds of crime in various cases.
Highlighting a recent case, SP South said Police Station Bahu Fort arrested one Pal Singh of Narwal Bala in FIR No. 265/2025 and recovered 265 grams of heroin from his possession.
During investigation, he said, police uncovered financial linkages showing that the accused, through his son, had paid an advance of Rs 21 lakh for a property deal.
After obtaining court permission, he said searches were conducted and the entire Rs 21 lakh was seized as proceeds of crime.
The SP Jammu South said in another case, Police Station Bagh-e-Bahu arrested one Arun Singh alias Kana during naka checking on January 14, 2026, and recovered heroin and a digital weighing machine, leading to the registration of FIR No. 02/2026.
He said further investigation revealed suspicious bank transactions linked to several suspects, including accounts with annual turnovers exceeding Rs 50 lakh and even Rs 1 crore, some maintained outside the Union Territory.
He said notices have been issued to suspects and their families, and inter-state financial linkages are being verified.
Reiterating a zero-tolerance policy against drug peddling, he said Jammu and Kashmir Police is committed to dismantling the entire supply and financial chain of narcotics and urged the public to support the fight against drugs by sharing credible information and cooperating with law enforcement.
