JAMMU, May 16: Jammu Warriors Front (JWF) chairman Rajesh Gupta today said that the epidemic of drug abuse in young generation has assumed alarming dimensions in J&K and all this is due to changing cultural values, increasing economic stress and dwindling supportive bonds.
“Cannabis, heroin, and Indian-produced pharmaceutical drugs are the most frequently abused drugs in J&K UT. Drug use, misuse or abuse is also primarily due to the nature of the drug abused, the personality of the individual and the addict’s immediate environment. The processes of industrialization, urbanization and migration have led to loosening of the traditional methods of social control rendering an individual vulnerable to the stresses and strains of modern life,” Gupta said.
He expressed hope that Anti Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) will form a great force to deal with drug peddlers. He added menace of drug abuse has not only cost Jammu and Kashmir many precious lives but also spoiled several families, whose youngsters got addicted to drugs coming from across the borders. This menace had gripped boys and girls from very good families as well. Many of them were even undergoing rehabilitation in drug de-addiction and rehabilitation centre”.
