Drones spotted in Srinagar, parts of Kashmir; Air Defence activated

Huge blasts rock parts of Valley, force blackout

SRINAGAR, May 10: In a violation of a bilateral understanding, drones were observed flying in multiple locations across Kashmir tonight, prompting swift action by the Air Defence which shot them down leading to huge blasts.

A series of blasts took place in Srinagar city as the security agencies brought down a drone that was seen hovering over Batwara area of the city, close to an Army installation.
This comes barely hours after India announced this evening that the two countries have reached an understanding to end all firing and military action.

Earlier in the day, huge blasts were heard in Srinagar and Baramulla after drones were spotted and air defence was activated. This led to panic in the areas.
An official said that Pakistan violated the bilateral understanding reached by sending drones and firing along the LoC.
As a series of blasts rocked the city after sundown, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah questioned the “ceasefire” announcement.
“This is no ceasefire. The air defence units in the middle of Srinagar just opened up,” he posted on X.
“What the hell just happened to the ceasefire? Explosions heard across Srinagar!!” he added.
Blasts could be heard after an interval of 15 minutes as the flares lit up the night sky in Srinagar city.
A drone was detected flying over Baramulla town in north Kashmir this evening and was destroyed by the anti-drone system.
A drone was brought down in Anantnag near an Army installation leading to huge blasts that were heard in the area.
Drone sightings were also reported from Verinag in Anantnag district and Bandipora and Safapora, as well. The air defence was also activated leading to huge blast sounds.
The drones were also seen in Gulmarg sector and Bota Pathri area and heavy firing continued for hours in the sector. They were neturalised by the air Defence system and huge multiple blast sounds were heard in the area.
