Driver arrested with 9 quintals poppy straw

JAMMU, Nov 1: Gangyal police along with Special Operation Group (SOG) Jammu under ‘Operation Sanjeevani’ arrested a driver along with 9 quintals of poppy straw.
As per police sources, on specific information, the sleuth from Gangyal Police Station and Special Operation Group (SOG) Jammu laid a naka and signaled a tanker bearing registration number JK02AC-1822 to stop for checking.
On seeing police cops, the driver accelerated the vehicle and escaped from the spot. Stinking something fishy, the cops intercepted the tanker after a brief chase.
During checking, police recovered 9 quintals of poppy straw from the vehicle and arrested the driver.
The accused has been identified as Mushtaq Ahmed, son of Ghulam Mohammad, a resident of Noorbagh Qamarwari, Kashmir.
During questioning, the driver disclosed that he had brought the consignment from Kashmir ad was trying to smuggle it to Punjab, but police foiled his bid by arresting him.
A case under relevant sections has been registered at Gangyal Police Station and investigation started.
Police team led by SHO Gangyal SI Nayat Ali and assisted by Incharge Greater Kailash Police Post SI Vicky Thapa made the arrest under the supervision of SDPO South Dr Sunniya Ashkoor Wani, SP South Vinay Kumar, SP Operations Sandeep Mehta and SSP Jammu Vivek Gupta.
