JAMMU, Nov 10: Dr Sudhir Singh, Assistant Professor at the Centre for Molecular Biology, Central University of Jammu (CUJ), was honoured for his pioneering research on the drug Lamotrigine at a prestigious international symposium held at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru.
The three-day event, titled “ASM-IISc Symposium on One Health Approach to Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR), was jointly organized by IISc and the American Society for Microbiology (ASM), USA. The symposium brought together leading scientists, clinicians, policymakers, and industry experts from around the world to address the escalating threat of antimicrobial resistance (AMR)—a global health challenge projected to cost nearly 3.5% of the world’s GDP by 2050.
Dr. Singh presented his research findings through an abstract titled “Lamotrigine Mediated Growth Recovery of ?rsgA Mutant in Escherichia coli.” His work explores the potential antibacterial properties of Lamotrigine; a drug traditionally used for neurological conditions.
During his presentation, Dr. Singh elaborated on the mechanistic insights of Lamotrigine and its promising role in combating bacterial resistance. He was felicitated with a memento by Prof. Helen Boucher from Tufts University School of Medicine, USA.
