LADAKH, Dec 4: Dr Sonam Wangmo, Assistant Professor, has been elected as the President of the College Teachers Association (CTA) of UT Ladakh, elections of which were held on Tuesday.

A total number of 104 votes were polled by Assistant Professors from across UT Ladakh who took part in the elections. Dr Sonam Wangmo secured 69 votes and defeated his rival Jigmet Sangyas with a margin of 34 votes. Dr Akbar Ali, who was elected as General Secretary was polled 68 votes while Tashi Dorjey got highest number of votes (82) and was declared elected for the post of Treasurer.
Meanwhile, former Member of Parliament, Jamyang Tsering Namgyal visited the elected team and said that the CTA election reflection the collective strength, unity and democratic spirit of the teaching fraternity of Ladakh. “Your election represents the faith and trust reposed in your leadership and vision by the academic community,” he said.
“I am confident that under your capable and visionary leadership the Association will continue to work tirelessly for academic excellence, institutional development, welfare of the teaching community and strengthening the higher education landscape in Ladakh,” he added and assured his full support and cooperation in all positive endeavours for the betterment of students, teachers and the education system in the region.
