POONCH, Sept 16: Vice Chancellor of Sai Nath University, Dr Shazad Malik has demanded special status for Rajouri and Poonch districts.
Addressing a youth conference at village Kanneti Bonola of border town Mendhar Dr Shazad Malik, a native of district Poonch asked all political parties and leaders belonging to Pir Panchal region to raise their voice jointly to seek special status for twin districts of Rajouri and Poonch.
While making this appeal for political unity, the VC said, it is immaterial what nomenclature is given to this empowered status but we need special attention of the Government for funds and development.
Citing the example of Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council which the people of Ladakh region got after long political struggle, he asked people to get united.
Dr Shazad requested all elected representatives of the Pir Panchal region to forget their political differences and get united for larger public cause.
He said, for over 70 years of independence of India, yet many areas of their region do not have access to roads, clean drinking water, health facilities and electricity.
He pointed out that the people of Rajouri and Poonch gave chance to every political party without any discrimination but unfortunately none of them reciprocated the gesture of the people but remain stuck in their petty political interests.
Earlier, former Panchayat members, senior citizens and a large number of youth of the area accorded a warm welcome to him on his arrival at Bonola village of Mendhar.
