JAMMU, Apr 26: Senior joint replacement surgeon, Dr Ranjit Singh, has once again showcased his surgical excellence by successfully performing a complex knee replacement surgery on an 84-year-old patient with multiple health complications, including diabetes, hypertension and a heart pacemaker.
The surgery was conducted at Nayyar Hospital, Amritsar, using Dr Singh’s innovative “Zero Error Technique,” which has been gaining widespread recognition for its outstanding results. The patient, Balbir Singh, a retired Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) from Sainik Colony, Jammu, had been battling severe joint pain and mobility issues for over two decades. Due to the complexity of his medical condition, several doctors had previously refused surgical intervention.
However, Dr Singh, known for his expertise carefully assessed the risks and reassured the patient and his family about the merits and safety of the procedure. Employing his “Zero Error Technique,” he successfully restored Balbir Singh’s mobility. Today, the patient is not only pain-free but has resumed his daily activities, including sitting cross-legged-a feat that seemed impossible just a few months ago.
Dr Ranjit Singh explained that the “Zero Error Technique” involves a minimal incision, nearly no blood loss, and significantly reduces the chances of infection. The entire procedure is completed in just about 20 minutes, resulting in minimal muscle damage and a remarkably swift recovery. According to Dr Singh, this method is not only safer but also more cost-effective compared to robotic and computer-assisted surgeries.
Highlighting the limitations of robotic knee surgery, Dr Singh pointed out that robotic procedures often require longer surgical times (up to two hours), larger skin incisions, and the placement of metallic pins into bones, increasing the risk of fractures, infections, and extended hospital stays. “Contrary to popular belief, manual knee replacement with refined techniques like the ‘Zero Error Technique’ remains the preferred choice among top surgeons worldwide,” Dr Singh emphasized.
