Dr Rampal addresses APICON-2026 at Patna

Jammu, Feb 7: While speaking on hypertriglyceridemia at 81st annual conference of Association of Physicians of India (APICON – 2026) at Patna, Dr. Vinay Rampal from Jammu impressed upon the need of return to original way of living and original food habits of the area concerned.
Hypertriglyceridemia, the most common of lipid disorders in the world, afflicting around 30 % of general population in both developed and developing countries, in mild to moderate elevations is a risk enhancing factor for Atherosclerotic Cardio Vascular Disease (ASCVD) but when present in severe proportions is causative for severe form of Acute Pancreatitis resulting in 2-5 % mortality.
It usually manifests in association with genetic disorders like Familial Chylomicronemia Syndrome, Multifactorial Chylomicronemia, Familial Partial Lipodystrophy in severe forms resulting in cardio vascular disorders in susceptible persons. In mild to moderate form, it is associated with metabolic syndrome and other disorders which are secondary to genetic mutations as well as acquired and as subsequent to certain commonly used drugs he said.
The disorders mostly associated with are like uncontrolled Diabetes Mellitus, Hypothyrodism, Nephrotic Syndrome and HIV associated Lipodystrophy. In addition, it may be due to excessive consumption of alcohol, excessive smoking, high-saturated fat intake, high-refined sugar intake, excess caloric consumption and decrease physical activity. it may also be caused by certain commonly used drugs like those for high blood pressure, like diuretics and blockers, atypical antipsychotic, glucocorticoids, oral estrogen, certain anti-cancer drugs and drugs used for HIV,” Dr Rampal Said.
