JAMMU, Feb 28: Renowned scholar, Padamshri, Dr K N Pandita today said though Kashmiri Pandits are passing through difficult period of history, the problems come and go but the community has to continue struggle to achieve its objective.
Addressing a programme organised by All State Kashmiri Pandit Conference (ASKPC) held under the leadership of ML Malla senior KP leader, here, today Dr K N Pandita said “Our identity is diminishing , population is dwindling and the social structure has been destroyed due to the mass exodus,. The younger generation is cut off from its roots and they are losing their moorings. These are basic challenges which the community is facing”, he added.
He made it clear that the main reason for the present situation of the community is that it is not a vote bank with the result the political parties are not ready to own it.
Showing confidence in the present dispensation at New Delhi and J&K Lt. Governor, he said some indications were given by a Union Minster twice and Lt Government recently which reveal that the Government is concerned for the community.
Pandita said in view of these statements, the community should shun negativity and be positive. “We have to create positive channels and talk to Government for the permanent solution of our problems,” he added.
Prof B L Zutshi in his address said that a new hope has been created in the community with the LG taking keen interest in our affairs and there is a ray of hope that something tangible will emerge. He highlighted the role of ASKPC and its leaders including Shiv Narayan Fotedar, Kashyap Bandhu, Sham Lal Saraf and A N Vaishnavi.
Senior KP leader, Moti Lal Malla said hope sustains life and community needs to be optimistic instead of losing courage.
Dr Sushil Watar and B L Bhat Katal who was recently selected for Padamshiri also spoke on the occasion. Earlier B L Bhat, and Ajay Tickoo, Vivek Suri and others who were named for last year’s State Award were honoured during the function.
