JAMMU, Jan 31: Dr Manohar Lal Sharma, former Minister and Senior Congress Leader, once again brought attention to the various pressing issues affecting the people of Jammu and Kashmir, while strongly urging the LG and the CM to take immediate action.
At the forefront of his demands is the regularisation of daily wagers and adhoc employees, who have been serving tirelessly in key government departments such as PHE, PDD, Forest, Fisheries, PWD, Municipalities, Health, Education and Rural Development for over 15 years.
Sharma said, “Despite their hard work and dedication, these employees continue to face uncertainty with no job security or regular pay, leaving their families in financial and emotional turmoil.”
“These Daily Wagers (DWs) and adhoc employees are the backbone of essential public services in Jammu and Kashmir. They ensure the smooth functioning of vital sectors like water, electricity, healthcare and infrastructure. Yet, they are forced to live in uncertainty and face immense hardships due to the government’s apathy. It is high time their services are regularized and they are provided the dignity and security they deserve,” he said.
“It is unacceptable and inhumane to deprive hardworking employees of their rightful wages. These workers rely on their monthly income to support their families and the delay in payments has left many struggling to make ends meet. The Government must act urgently to release their pending dues and ensure timely payments in the future,” he added.
Sharma also expressed solidarity with ASHA workers, Anganwadi workers, contractual teachers and other temporary employees, who continue to face exploitation, delayed payments and poor working conditions.
He called for a comprehensive policy to address their grievances and ensure fair treatment.
“These workers, especially women, are the backbone of grassroots governance and social services. Their contributions to society must be recognized, and their rights must be protected,” he added.
