JAMMU, Aug 17: Dr Pavan Malhotra, a distinguished medical professional and Director-Principal of Acharya Shri Chander College of Medical Sciences (ASCOMS), has been appointed as the first International Advisor to the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow (RCPSG), United Kingdom, from Jammu and Kashmir.
A prominent figure in the healthcare community, Dr Malhotra also serves as Professor of Pharmacology at ASCOMS and president of the Indian Medical Association (IMA), Jammu. His new role will focus on strengthening academic collaborations, enhancing medical education standards, and expanding RCPSG’s presence in India, particularly in J&K.
With over three decades of experience, Dr Malhotra is credited with 91 research publications, authorship of the book ‘Manual of Practical Pharmacology’, and participation in prestigious projects including the WHO-SEARO committee on clinical pharmacology education and the CORTAIL study on tuberculosis treatment. He has also delivered the Dr Pratap C. Reddy International Oration of the International Medical Sciences Academy.
Dr Malhotra holds MBBS and MD degrees from Government Medical College Jammu, and is the first pharmacologist in India to be conferred British qualifications of MRCP (2014) and FRCP (2019) by RCPSG, and FRCP (2022) by the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh. He also received an honorary doctorate from Thames International University, Paris, in 2023.
Speaking on his appointment, Dr Malhotra said, “It is a great honor to represent J&K at such a global platform. I am committed to bridging medical education between India and the UK and fostering meaningful collaborations.”
The RCPSG, established in 1599, is among the world’s oldest medical colleges with a global network of 15,000 members and fellows.
