JAMMU, Mar 6: Former Union Minister Dr Karan Singh today inaugurated the “Jammu and Kashmir Art Exhibition” at Kala Kendra, Jammu, in the presence of prominent artists, art lovers, and cultural enthusiasts.
The ten-day exhibition, organized jointly by Kala Kendra Society, Amar Mahal Museum and Library, and the Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture, and Languages (JKAACL), showcases the rich artistic heritage of Jammu and Kashmir. The exhibition is being held across all five galleries of Kala Kendra.
Dr Karan Singh, while inaugurating the event, highlighted the close connection between the region’s artistic traditions and its cultural legacy.
He praised the contributions of J&K’s artists in promoting local art on both national and international stages.
Expressing his deep appreciation for the region’s music, visual arts, and performing arts, Dr Singh congratulated the organizers for putting together this important exhibition.
Dr Javaid Rahi, Secretary of Kala Kendra Society, in his address, outlined the exhibition’s objectives.
He mentioned that a series of activities, including art camps and workshops, would be held over the ten-day event.
Jotishna Singh noted that the exhibition is part of the ongoing 3rd Tawi Art and Culture Festival, aimed at promoting the culture and languages of Jammu and Kashmir through various artistic initiatives.
Dr Lalit Gupta, the eminent art historian overseeing the event, emphasized that the exhibition features rare works by top J&K painters and encouraged the public to visit and appreciate the diverse artistic expressions on display.
Padma Shri Rajinder Tickoo, the curator, added that the exhibition offers a unique glimpse into over a century of artistic tradition from J&K, with carefully selected works from renowned local artists.
Artist Suman Gupta highlighted the exhibition’s role in inspiring younger generations to engage with contemporary art.
The event was graced by several other notable figures, including Padma Shri Balwant Thakur, theatre personality Zaffar Choudhary, authors and journalists like Bhushan Koul and Bhishambar Mehta, as well as a range of eminent artists and writers.
