JAMMU, Sept 3: Former Member of Parliament, Dr Karan Singh today expressed strong disapproval of the use of abusive language against Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mother, describing it as a serious breach of India’s cultural values.
In a statement, Dr Singh said he had long been concerned about the deterioration of public discourse in the country. “For several years, I have been expressing grief over the declining standards of public language and the growing bitterness in debates. Even while bidding farewell to the Rajya Sabha, I had repeatedly urged that harsh words should not be used,” he said.
Calling the reported remarks “extremely unfortunate,” Dr Singh said no individual should resort to such language. He stressed that the use of derogatory words against a mother figure was “entirely against our tradition” and called for strict action against the person responsible.
Dr Singh reiterated that ensuring accountability in such cases was essential to prevent the recurrence of similar incidents in the future.
