CHENNAI Oct 26: In a rare honour, perhaps one of the first of its kind for any medical professional in this part of the country, Dr Jitendra Singh, nationally known Diabetologist, National Professor of Diabetes and noted author, has been officially designated as Chairman of the National Scientific Committee that will plan the academic programme and finalize the list of eminent foreign and Indian faculty speakers for the prestigious three-day Diabetes conference to be held next year in New Delhi under the auspices of RSSDI (Research Society for Study of Diabetes in India).
This was formally disclosed here today on the opening day of 40th RSSDI Annual Conference of Diabetes.
RSSDI sources revealed that Dr Jitendra Singh has been bestowed with the coveted assignment after his name was singled out for selection from a panel of leading Diabetologists from across the country. Pertinent to mention that Dr Jitendra Singh, who is a recipient of several awards and citations, enjoys the rare distinction of being an author of eight books out of which three have been published by famous UK based Elsevier publishers and one of his books was included in the Best-seller section of World Book Fair held at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.
In addition, he has so far contributed Diabetes chapters in over a dozen standard text-books of Medicine or Diabetology and published more than three thousand articles in leading news periodicals and journals. An alumnus of Stanley Medical College,Chennai, Dr Jitendra Singh is currently National Joint Secretary of DIPSI (Diabetes in Pregnancy Study Group) whose guidelines regarding management of Diabetes in pregnancy have been acknowledged by the WHO and earlier his pioneering work on “Stress Diabetes in displaced Kashmiri community” was also hailed by the WHO. He is also National Executive Member of both “RSSDI” as well as “Diabetes India”.
Talking to media, Dr Jitendra Singh said that with the cooperation of other members in the committee and in coordination with organizing chairman Dr S.V. Madhu and the organizing team, the endeavour would be that RSSDI-2013 Diabetes Conference to be held in the national capital of New Delhi shapes up as a rich feast unprecedented in both its academic quality as well as hospitality.
