RAMBAN, Apr 6: Reviewing the healthcare sector of district Ramban, Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh announced that he had donated from his MP fund critical care ambulance costing Rs 88 lakh rupees. He directed the Chief Medical Officer to address the shortage of gynaecologists in the district to ensure improved maternal healthcare services. Dr Singh suggested setting up science museums in Government schools across the district to promote scientific awareness among students.
The Minister also took stock of major infrastructure and connectivity projects, including works on NH-44, PMGSY roads, tunnels, bridges and urban development projects in Ramban, Batote and Banihal. He expressed satisfaction over the progress of tunnels along the Ramban-Banihal stretch of the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, noting that these are nearing completion, and will soon be opened to the public. This would significantly enhance connectivity and ease of travel, he added. The Minister said that work on these tunnels was held up due to the last year’s incessant rains and flash floods in the area.
The Minister noted that one automated weather station established in Banihal is functioning effectively to provide timely updates, and added that it will be upgraded periodically. He further informed that two additional weather stations will be established in Ramsoo and Gool under the Minister of Earth Sciences to strengthen weather monitoring in the region.
Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science and Technology; Earth Sciences and Minister of State for PMO, Department of Atomic Energy, Department of Space, Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, Dr. Jitendra Singh, today chaired a meeting of the District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) of Ramban district. During the meeting, Dr Singh reviewed the progress of various developmental initiatives being implemented across the district under flagship programmes of the Government of India and the Union Territory Administration.
Dr. Jitendra Singh emphasised that roads, drinking water supply and power must be accorded top priority to improve ease of living for citizens. He directed the concerned departments to ensure time-bound execution of projects and stressed that district authorities must keep MLAs informed and actively involved in planning, execution and monitoring of developmental works.
Dr. Jitendra Singh informed that two Kendriya Vidyalayas will start academic work in Ramban during the current year, which will strengthen the education infrastructure in the district.
Highlighting tourism potential of the area, the Minister informed that a golf course will be developed at Sanasar, where a tulip garden has already been established. These would be the first of its kind facilities in the region after Srinagar, Dr Singh underlined.
Addressing the issue of increasing road accidents on the National Highway, Dr. Jitendra Singh stated that until a full-fledged trauma centre is established in the district, doctors may be provided by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to cater to emergency care of trauma patients.
During the meeting, Deputy Commissioner Ramban, Mohammad Alyas Khan, gave a detailed presentation during the meeting, highlighting sector-wise progress under various Centrally Sponsored Schemes and developmental sectors.
The meeting was attended among others by MLA Ramban Arjun Singh Raju, MLA Banihal Sajad Shaheen, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Alyas Khan and SSP Arun Gupta.
