JAMMU, Mar 28: Department of Pharmacology, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Institute of Medical Excellence (SMVDIME), conducted a Journal Club presentation on the topic “Recent Advances in the Pharmacological Management of Diabetes.”
The presentation was delivered by Dr Tasaduk Hussain Itoo, Fellow of the International Diabetes Federation and Tutor in the Department of Pharmacology.
In his presentation, Dr Itoo highlighted the evolving paradigm in diabetes care, emphasizing a transition from a traditional glucose-centric approach to a more comprehensive cardio-renal-metabolic framework. He elaborated on key pathophysiological models, including the Ominous Octet and the Egregious Eleven.
The session also covered recent advances in pharmacotherapy, with a particular focus on GLP-1 receptor agonists and SGLT2 inhibitors, along with the established role of DPP-4 inhibitors. Emphasis was placed on individualized, patient-centered treatment strategies, integrating current evidence to optimize glycaemic control and improve long-term clinical outcomes.
