SRINAGAR, Sept 20: Prof Dr Mohammad Hussain, Associate Professor in Department of Law was today declared as the new president of Kashmir University Teachers Association (KUTA).
In the election held on Saturday, Kashmir University teaching faculty voted its new body for a period of two years. The term of last body had ended on August 26 this year.
Prof Hussain garnered 350 votes and was elected as the president of KUTA, which was formed in 1976. Linguist Dr Musavir Salam was elected as Secretary General.
Teachers from all the campuses of Kashmir University, viz Hazratbal, North, South, Leh and Kargil, participated in the elections.
Prof Husain said that as president of KUTA he will try to address the concerns and issues of not only teaching community but also of the students of Kashmir University. “There are so many issues of teachers in the university, particularly those related to promotions and seniority. I will try my best to address all such issues,” he said.
He said he will adopt a strategic approach in resolving teachers’ problems and issues. “Strategic approach will be my tool and will never try to by confrontationist,” he underlined.
Prof Hussain said that for students he will on forefront in voicing their concerns and issues besides seeking their redressal. He said he will try to make implementation of new examination policy of the university in a time bound manner for the overall benefit of student community.
He said that he is teaching in university from past 25 years, and knows very well the issues of both teachers and students. (KNS)
