JAMMU, Dec 31: Dr Gautam Sharma, Consultant Dentistry, University of Jammu and former president, Indian Dental Association (IDA), delivered a lecture on management of the sensitivity in the teeth at Jammu. He discussed the various aspects including the causes, aggravating factors as well as management of the dental hypersensitivity.
In his presentation, he discussed that sensitivity in the teeth is a common clinical condition associated with exposed dentinal surfaces which can affect patients of any age group and most commonly affects the canines and premolars due to their prominent position in both the arches. He highlighted the role of acidic food as well as attrition, abrasion, erosion, abfraction, aggressive tooth brushing, GE reflux disease, salivary hypofunction, etc. in causing dentinal hypersensitivity.
He stressed that the first step in management is the correct diagnosis and removal of the etiological factors causing the hypersensitivity. He also classified the desensitizing agents on the basis of mechanism of action. Dr Gautam informed the participants regarding the non-invasive and invasive desensitization treatments which can be undertaken in their clinical practice for management of the dentinal hypersensitivity.
Dr Gautam Sharma is regularly conducting continuing dental education (CDE) programs in Jammu as a resource person and speaker. He is masters in dental surgery (MDS) in the subject of Periodontics and running a successful clinical practice.
