JAMMU, Jan 10: Dr Daya Nand Sharma, Executive Director of AIIMS Rewari, has been given the additional charge of Executive Director, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Jammu, following the completion of tenure of Prof (Dr) Shakti Kumar Gupta as Executive Director (ED) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Institute.
The additional charge has been assigned with the approval of the competent authority in the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare for a period of three months with effect from January 10, 2026, or until the appointment of a regular incumbent, whichever is earlier.
AIIMS Jammu was envisioned as a premier institution to strengthen tertiary healthcare, medical education and research in Jammu & Kashmir. Under Prof (Dr) Shakti Kumar Gupta’s leadership, this vision was translated into reality within a remarkably short timeframe.
One of the most significant achievements during his tenure was the completion of 43 major buildings in a record time of just three and a half years, despite the unprecedented challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. This achievement laid a strong foundation for the Institute’s clinical, academic and research expansion.
The Institute commenced its Outpatient Department (OPD) services on August 1, 2024, and currently offers comprehensive healthcare across 34 departments, including 20 specialty and 14 super-specialty disciplines. Over the years, AIIMS Jammu has witnessed steady expansion in advanced clinical services, emergency and critical care facilities, as well as growth in academics and research activities.
AIIMS Jammu’s rapid progress has also been reflected in national rankings. The Institute secured the 7th position in Outlook Magazine’s 2025 Government Medical Universities Ranking, emerging as the second-highest ranked institute after AIIMS Delhi.
