JAMMU, Dec 22: Maintaining that primary source is essence of history, Veteran writer, Dr R L Bhat today made it clear that the historians depending on secondary source are negating the reality and distorting the history itself.
Delivering a lecture on the topic Exposition of Kashmir History, Dr Bhat said the history of Kalhan is based on primary source and it is the authentic history which can’t be negated. He said Kalhan has quoted earlier histories as the source of Raj Tarangni while some Kashmiri historians later tried to negate him and create their own version of history by distorting the facts on Kashmir history.
Dr Bhat outrightly rejected that Rinchan the King of medieval Kashmir had converted to Islam. He, while contesting the claim of some Kashmiri historians in this regard said this is totally a distorted version of history having no base.
He also threw light on the great King Awantiverman and his rule saying that myth has also been created about him by certain historians. He denied that situation in Kashmir was in doldrums and order was only restored when Muslim rulers from outside came to Valley. He said the rulers in Valley were very strong and brave who could withstand any invasion. Dr Bhat said even the Bhatta was considered a great warrior. He regretted that some historians have negated the reality and distorted the facts by creating their own version which can’t be called the history.
Prof Ashok Aima former Vice Chancellor Central University Jammu who was presided over the programme said Dr Bhat has done a great job by bringing facts to light about the history of Kashmir.
