DPR of Ujjh Project under active consideration of CEA: DyCM

SRINAGAR, June 30: Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh said that Detailed Project Report of Ujjh Multipurpose Project is under active construction of Central Electricity Authority (CEA).
The Deputy CM was replying to a Calling Attention moved by Rajiv Jasrotia regarding the progress of Ujjh Multipurpose Project.
The Deputy CM said that during 2001 GoJK requested Central Water Commission (CWC) to prepare the Project report of the Ujjh Project in addition to some other projects said under PMs 50000 MW hydroelectric initiative, the Prefeasibility report (PFR) of Ujjh Project with a power potential of 280 MW was prepared by M/s WAPCOS. No tangible progress was made with regard to preparation of DPR of the Project, Mr. Singh said.
During  2006, Union Cabinet declared 14 Water resources as National Projects for which 90% project cost of irrigation and drinking water component was to be provided as Central Grant and Ujjh Project of J&K was identified as one such National Project.
Dr Nirmal Singh said that the preparation of DPR of the Project jointly by JKSPDC and CWC did not take off at the desired pace to various reasons. However, during 2013 the CWC submitted the DPR of Ujjh project to JKSPDC in presence of the Union Minister for Water resources, GoI.
The Dy CM said that Terms of Reference (ToR) for Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) studies of the Project have been cleared by Ministry of Environment and Forests in January 2015. Where as  site specific seismic studies are under progress.
He said that revision of DPR based on revised comments, including revision of cost estimates based on price index of 2016 is under process in Chenab Division CWC, Jammu.
