Dowry victim batting for life

SRINAGAR, Feb 2: Tasleema Akhtar, 28, resident of Ichgam village of central Kashmir’s district Budgam was allegedly burnt by her husband Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Rather, his sister and mother, last week, for demand of dowry.
Mother of two (aged 4 years and 18 months) is battling for her life at SMHS hospital Srinagar from last one week. The family and neighbors of the victim said that despite committing heinous crime Ghulam Mohammad was still roaming free and police have not arrested him so far.
Fatima Jan, sister of the victim said that Tasleema Jan was married with Mohi-ud-Din son of Ali Mohammad of Ichgam, Budgam eight years back.
She said that despite paying dowry her in -laws were still harassing her on one pretext or the other and were demanding extra dowry from her parents. “We couldn’t fulfill their demands as our brother was severely ill and was shifted to Delhi for further treatment which drained our money,” Fatima said.
