Doordarshan marks 66th foundation day with ‘Shabdanjali’ cultural evening

NEW DELHI, Sept 15: Doordarshan celebrated its 66th Foundation Day today with a grand cultural evening titled “Shabdanjali – A Cultural Evening from Tradition to Modernity.”
The event, held in the national capital, showcased the country’s rich cultural heritage alongside contemporary creative expressions.
Founded on September 15, 1959, Doordarshan has been more than a broadcaster, serving as a cultural mirror of India’s journey across social, political, and artistic fields.
From its early black-and-white transmissions to the digital era, it has remained a trusted voice for the people.
The Foundation Day celebrations featured performances in music, dance, drama, and storytelling.
Singer Maithili Thakur presented soulful Bhajans and Thumri, connecting devotional traditions with modern audiences.
Vusat Iqbal Khan of the Dilli Gharana, accompanied by Abaad Ahmed, performed Sufi classics including Chhap Tilak and Dama Dam Mast Qalandar, along with Khayaal in Raag Ahir Bhairav.
The cast of Doordarshan’s popular serial Devanchal ki Prem Katha staged a live performance of their story of two differently-abled lovers, blending traditional values with modern challenges.
A unique Kathakali-Kuchipudi dance-drama titled Sita-Ravana Vaadam portrayed the legendary confrontation between Sita and Ravana, ending with a powerful message urging women to awaken their inner strength.
The evening was anchored by Sugandha Mishra and Sanket Bhosle, who kept the audience engaged with humour and energy.
On this occasion, Doordarshan reaffirmed its commitment to innovation, inclusivity, and nation-building, continuing its role as the voice and pride of India.
